Hass @ The Baked Potato?

Hass is playing at the potato twice...on the 3rd and 4th isnt?

Anyways, i would have been just arriving in L.A at that time :|...too bad that job came up..but then again it was a win win for me

If the job came i got that and if it didnt i got to go to l.a

Anyways i plan to move it ahead to some other time soon..so i'll let you guys know

Haslip, Ferrante, Liebman, & Hass would not be playing a gig together if they didn't have mutual respect for one another's abilities, qualifications, & what they can each bring to the table.

If Lieb really thought they didn't qualify, he wouldn't be doing the gig.

Improvised acoustic jazz is not their strength. Jimmy does not even play acoustic bass, which is one of the main instruments in jazz. That is not a simple opinion. It's a fact based on the music they have produced throughout the years and the gigs they get called for

Best kept in the trad-bop-jazz 101 teaching cubicle, & off the real-time bandstand in some situations, perhaps. ;-)

Obv, the issue is w certain individuals [& not on the All Stars bandstand]... ;-)

Wow.

Allan Holdsworth is not a SA trad bop jazz player by any stretch; but he is one of if not THE Coltrane's of guitar. Def some Miles [in philosophy]; maybe even some Bird in there AW [tho not necessarily in approach; but in "essence or aura"]. You better believe he can flat nail the heavy melodic/enharmonic/tonal [AWA heavy rhythmic] changes [just look at all the great drummers he's played with & you'll know part of the reason why]. Same w Gambale. Fuso-hybrid. Fresh, new, exciting. But Sweet Baby James-Dodds, he can nail the changes too.

I'm glad AH doesn't play like Martino, Pass, Eschete, Bruno, Wes, or DiOrio...because we already HAVE greats Martino, Pass, Eschete, Bruno, Wes, & DiOrio...shee 'tum shayin'?

Kinda like Vinnie/Weck/Tony, & Art/Elvin/BR...see?

I was wondering why the promoters didn't call it, "All-Stars Liebman & Hass...& Some Other Pseudo-Creative-Electric-Only-Half-Axes"...

Yes I did not mean to cause another uprising in here. I just think it's an odd grouping of musicians. Jimmy, Mike and Russ are amazing players in my opinion. However, they are amazing in a completely different genre of music. I know Liebman and Hass have played together before. Those gigs involved acoustic instruments and open improvised swing sections. I believe that a select few in here believe certain musicians can burn in any genre, when in fact it's not what they're about. Jimmy Haslip and Russ Ferrante are brilliant.
